Who is the Creative Generator SEQ?

Valeska Wood has spent 25 years developing a career in the arts and cultural industries. She studied at Melbourne University (Bachelor of Education-Visual Arts) and has split her time between practicing as a professional artist, exhibiting her visual and sculptural artworks and facilitating the development of the arts in communities.

Valeska has lived and worked with indigenous individuals in remote communities in Western Australia and the Northern Territory and spent 2 years working as a community development worker with Australian Volunteers Abroad in Papua New Guinea.

However, returning to her hometown in the south-west corner of Western Australia some 15 years ago, Valeska worked as a lecturer and took on the role of coordinator of the Arts Administration course at Great Southern Institute of Technology. Since then Valeska has worked as a public artist, community arts-worker, curator and as an arts advocacy volunteer for various arts and community development committees, panels and reference groups.

Her most recent project was an oral history documentary film called Bloody Hippies, which is based on her own experiences growing up on a farm and observing the changes that ‘hippies and artists’ brought to the small, rural community of Denmark, Western Australia in the 1970’s.

Valeska relocated to Brisbane three months ago for a ‘climate change’!
